Weather
Included with Macro DeckShow the current weather and the forecast for your locations on your deck, without an API key.
Weather widgets in four sizes, the largest with the current conditions and a three-day forecast
- Weather data from Open-Meteo, no account or API key
- Add as many locations as you like
- Weather widget with today and the next days
- Details dialog with hourly forecast, wind, humidity and sun times
- Temperature and condition as variables
The Weather integration shows the weather for the places you care about. It gets its data from Open-Meteo, a free weather service, so you do not need an account or an API key. You add a location by searching for a city or by entering its coordinates, and choose Celsius or Fahrenheit for each one.
Widget, details and variables
The Weather widget shows the current conditions and the forecast for the next days for one location. With the Compact style it shows only the location, the current temperature, the condition and today's high and low. Pressing the widget opens Weather details, a dialog with the forecast, the next hours, how warm it feels, humidity, wind, precipitation, sunrise and sunset. If you give the widget a Short Press action of your own, your action runs instead.
The action Show weather details opens the same dialog from any button, for the location you pick.
The integration also offers variables for the first location you added: the temperature, the apparent temperature, today's high and low, the condition and whether it is day. Use them in labels or conditions, for example {{ vars.weather_temperature }}° on a button, or an If / Else that changes a button's color when weather_condition reads Rain.
Example setups
- A Weather widget for your city on the home folder of your deck.
- Two widgets side by side, one for home and one for the city where your family lives.
- A button with Show weather details in a folder for your morning routine.
- A label that reads
{{ vars.weather_temperature }}° / {{ vars.weather_high }}°next to a clock.
How it updates
Macro Deck fetches the weather for every location every 15 minutes, and widgets show the new data right away. The forecast covers 7 days. When a refresh fails, for example because the computer is offline for a moment, the last data stays on the widget.
What you need
- Macro Deck 3 on Windows, macOS or Linux
- An internet connection on the computer that runs Macro Deck
- The name of a city, or the latitude and longitude of the place
Set it up
Step 1: Open the Weather integration
In Macro Deck, click Integrations in the sidebar and click Weather.
Step 2: Add a location
On the Overview tab, click Add configuration in the Configuration section. Turning on the switch at the top right opens the same dialog. In the Add a location dialog, enter a City, for example
Berlin, and choose the Temperature unit. Instead of a city you can leave City empty and enter Latitude and Longitude, for example from a map service. Click Continue. Macro Deck uses the first place the search finds and turns the integration on.Step 3: Add more locations if you need them
Click Add configuration again for each further place. Rename on a location changes the name it shows on the widget.
Step 4: Add a Weather widget
On the Deck page, with the deck unlocked (the Lock button shows at the top right), add a Weather widget and choose the place under Weather location. Set Forecast days to choose how many days it shows.
Step 5: Add the details action to a button
To open the forecast from a button, click the button on the Deck page. The editor opens with Short Press selected. Click + Add action, select Weather on the left of the Add action dialog and pick Show weather details. Pick the place under Location, or leave it empty to use the first location.
Step 6: Check the result
The widget shows the current weather a moment after you save. Press it, or the button, to open Weather details.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need an API key?
No. The weather comes from Open-Meteo, which needs no account or key. Macro Deck sends the coordinates of your locations to Open-Meteo to get the forecast, and the city name when you search for one during setup.
Can I show the weather for several places?
Yes. Add one configuration per place, and choose the place in each Weather widget or Show weather details action. The variables always follow the first location you added.
The search finds the wrong city. What can I do?
Macro Deck uses the first place the search finds. Leave City empty and enter Latitude and Longitude instead to get exactly the place you mean. Use Edit connection on the location to change it later.
How often does the weather update?
Every 15 minutes. If a refresh fails, the widget keeps the last data it had, so a short outage does not empty it.
Why does pressing the widget do nothing on my hardware deck?
A hardware deck has no screen for the details dialog. Give the widget a Short Press action of your own if you want it to do something there.
