Meld Studio
Included with Macro DeckSwitch and stage scenes, control layers, effects and audio tracks, and go live in Meld Studio.
The Connect Meld Studio dialog with the Advanced configuration switch
- Show or stage scenes and take the staged scene live
- Show or hide layers and turn effects on or off
- Mute, monitor and set the volume of audio tracks
- Start and stop streaming and recording, take screenshots
- Triggers for scene, layer, effect and track changes
The Meld Studio integration connects Macro Deck to Meld Studio through its WebSocket (WebChannel) API. Your buttons switch scenes, change what is visible on screen, control audio and start your stream, and Meld Studio reports every change back, so the deck shows the current state.
What you can do
- Show a scene live, stage a scene without showing it, and show the staged scene when you are ready.
- Show, hide or toggle a layer, and enable, disable or toggle an effect.
- Mute or unmute an audio track, turn its monitoring on or off, set its volume or raise and lower it by a step.
- Start, stop or toggle streaming and recording, and take a screenshot of the program output in horizontal or vertical orientation.
- Read the state of a layer, an effect or a track into a variable for use in conditions.
Some example setups:
- A BRB button that shows your BRB scene and mutes your microphone track.
- A Go live button that toggles streaming and shows whether you are live.
- A slider bound to
meld_<track>_gainof your music track, so moving the slider changes the track volume in Meld Studio. - A flow that runs on Scene Changed and turns off a camera effect whenever you leave your main scene.
How it behaves
Meld Studio pushes its changes to Macro Deck, so variables such as meld_current_scene, meld_staged_scene, meld_is_streaming and meld_is_recording follow Meld Studio within a moment. The variable picker also lists every audio track of the session with its gain, mute and monitoring state. The gain variable, meld_<track>_gain, can be written, so a slider can control it.
The integration has a single configuration. By default it connects to Meld Studio on the same computer. You can enter another host under Advanced configuration in the setup, but Meld Studio's API has no password and no encryption, so Macro Deck asks you to confirm the risk first. When Meld Studio closes, Macro Deck keeps trying to reconnect, and the Connected and Disconnected triggers let a flow react.
What you need
- Macro Deck 3 on Windows, macOS or Linux
- Meld Studio running on the same computer or on a computer in a network you trust
- The WebSocket (WebChannel) server turned on in Meld Studio under Settings, then Advanced
Set it up
Step 1: Turn on the WebSocket server in Meld Studio
In Meld Studio, open Settings, then Advanced, and turn on the WebSocket (WebChannel) server.
Step 2: Open Meld Studio in Macro Deck
In Macro Deck, click Integrations in the sidebar and click Meld Studio. On the Overview tab, click Set up in the Configuration section. Turning on the switch at the top right opens the same dialog, and the integration is turned on once the setup is done.
Step 3: Connect to Meld Studio
The dialog Connect Meld Studio needs nothing for a Meld Studio on the same computer: click Continue and Macro Deck tests the connection.
If Meld Studio runs on another computer, turn on Advanced configuration and enter the Host (its IP address) and, only if you changed it, the Port (default
13376). Click Continue. The next step, Connect to a remote Meld Studio, warns that the connection has no password and no encryption. Turn on I understand the risk and want to continue and click Continue.Step 4: Add a Meld Studio action to a button
On the Deck page, click the button you want to use. The deck must be unlocked: when the button at the top right reads Lock, it is unlocked. The editor opens with Short Press selected. Click + Add action, select Meld Studio on the left of the Add action dialog and pick an action such as Show Scene. Select the Scene, then click Save.
Step 5: Press the button
Press the button on your phone, tablet or in the web client. Meld Studio switches to the scene. If nothing happens, check that Meld Studio is running and that the configuration shows Connected on the Meld Studio page under Integrations.

Frequently asked questions
Does it work when Meld Studio runs on another computer?
Yes. Enter its IP address as Host under Advanced configuration during setup. Meld Studio's API has no password and no encryption, so anyone who can reach it on the network can control it. Only do this in a network you trust.
Do I need a password?
No. Meld Studio's WebSocket API does not use one, so the setup only asks for the host and the port.
What happens when Meld Studio closes?
Macro Deck keeps trying to reconnect and connects again once Meld Studio is running. Until then, actions fail with Meld Studio is not connected.
Why does an action say the scene or layer was not found?
The scene, layer, effect or track was renamed or removed in Meld Studio after you set up the action. Pick it again in the action.
Can I connect more than one Meld Studio?
No. The integration has a single configuration. Setting it up again replaces the current connection.
